4 Ways to Beat the Exam Stress
1. JUST LET GO & PUT IN YOUR BEST EFFORTS
Worry never helps. If you can do something about it, do it NOW, if you cannot, no point in stressing about it.
What if I don't pass? What if i don't get a good score? What will my teachers think ?
What will my parents feel about me? Such thoughts will take you nowhere, in fact they will
hamper your chances.
Just Let Go!
It is your chance to put in your best efforts. You have studied throughout the year and now you have the opportunity to refresh your knowledge, identify and fill in the gaps. Ask for help.
It may be that you are struggling to understand a concept or two yourself, communicate with the right person, get it sorted and move on.
2. PRIORITISE TASKS WITH SMART ACTIONABLES
As a first step, list out all the subjects that are coming in the exam. For each subject, mention the
topics/subtopics.Then prioritise the subjects/topics that require more work.
Create SMART(S-Specific M-Measurable A-Achievable R-Realistic T-Timed) Actionables for each subject. For instance, I will complete topic 1 of Physics in 2 hours today from 2 pm to 4 pm. Write a Timetable and work to it. Try it with absolute conviction,if it doesn't work, make changes to make it more realistic.
Sometimes, we revise better by listening to our own voice. Read aloud, record your subject
and listen to it in a relaxed focused state.
We all have our individual and unique style of revising the subjects. Do what works best for you.
3. FOLLOW A STRUCTURED APPROACH
Always break the information down into bite-sized chunks.Divide your work wisely and stop when you get there, then recap and see if you can boil the concept down further, so that you can create small hooks to bring the information back up to the surface easily.
Take breaks in between. Do not tire your mind too much because a tired mind remembers very little.You need to think of yourself as a dynamic and highly focused performer who needs to be in the optimum condition to work. Make sure you reward yourself when you reach a revision milestone. Relaxation(not social media) and laughter are best.
Stay as positive, focused and relaxed as you can be on exam day, the more you will recall.
4. DIGITAL DETOX
Turn your phone on silent and only allow yourself to check it at planned intervals
(e.g. have 10 minute every 2-3 hours).
If your screen is lighting up every 5 seconds then turn off your notifications. Do it and see
a massive difference in the amount of time you spend on your phone
If you can’t trust yourself then put your phone in a different room.
